Douglas DC-2 VH-UXJ "Loongana" of ANA. Taken on December 4, 1936 on the aircraft's initial test flight at Essendon after arrival in Australia. The test was carried out by Captain Clarrie Scott and the aircraft was finally withdrawn from service in December 1947. (Original photo courtesy John Hewson)
Australian National Airways Douglas DC-4 VH-INX "Katana" photographed at Sydney's Mascot Airport around 1952. This aircraft was purchased by the airline in April 1951. A pair of ANA DC-3s are on the right and in the distance is earth moving equipment filling in the Cooks River to make way for the present day East-West runway. Australian National Airways Douglas DC-6 VH-INV "Nairana" at Sydney's Mascot Airport in 1954. Purchased from National Airlines in September 1953 and sold to a US company in March 1960. The aircraft eventually crashed at Oakland Airport, California in January 1967. To the right is a RAAF DC-3 and behind that aircraft a Butler Air Transport DeHavilland Heron.
