The second of 'Chic's' books, 'We Flew In Burma' tells of Cathay Pacific's historically forgotten part in bringing succour to a beleagured country. 'Chic' touches on the Japanese invasion of Burma in World War II. After the defeat of Nazi Germany and its allies he tells how Britain granted Burma its independence.
Then the murder of its leader, Bo Aung San, during a parliamentary sitting, and how the country gradually lapsed into anarchy. Within range of Karen insurgent artillery Cathay's planes operated from encircled Rangoon's Mingaladon Airport dodging shell blasts and sniper fire. Of the charter vultures who held a starving country to ransom and of how Cathay assisted in ridding Burma of these greedy lice through the government's charter company - Air Burma.
Then the land fell under the yoke of an army whose leader ruled as a despot. "How long will 38,000,000 million gentle people be controlled by a military force of just 180,000?". Although a serious work, it includes many humorous anecdotes, making it a book that lacks little. All Chic's books are available in a PDF format.
